The University history dates back to
the decree “On establishing a general technical faculty of the North-Western Extra-Mural Polytechnic Institute in the city
of Vologda” enacted by the RSFSR Minister for Higher and Secondary
Professional Education on March 1,
Another
important milestone in the history of our educational institution was a decree adopted by the USSR Council of Ministers in
December 1973. According to the decree,
A
lot of things have changed during these years. The number of faculties and specialties
has increased, a two-level system has been introduced (Bachelor/ Masters
Programs), the number of students has considerably grown, new

VSTU
offers high-quality training in the Faculty of Industrial Management, Power
Engineering Faculty, Civil Engineering Faculty, Faculty of Ecology, Faculty of
Economics, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Correspondence and Distance
Learning and at the Mechanical Engineering
The University is proud of its
own Library which presents a unique collection of the variety of information
resources of more than 1.300.000 items.
The
academic staff is constantly working towards the better provision of
educational process, participating in the research work and improving their
competences and academic skills. VSTU academic staff is currently
comprised of 55 Professors and Doctors (the second-tier doctoral degree,
equivalent to Post-doctoral studies) and 298 Candidates of Sciences (the first-tier
doctoral degree, equivalent to PhD). Research and postgraduate activities are
developing at a dynamic pace. Since 2001 the University has been providing
studies in the framework of the President of the Russian Federation Program
aimed at the professional development of administrative and management
personnel.
